We have enjoyed being part of the Old St Mary’s community garden but we really wanted a site of our own that we could use to promote biodiversity and sustainable way of growing fruit and vegetables.
The allotments have provided additional growing to the Vegetable Garden. We have concentrated on fruits and herbs for the most part though our pea frame, made by Ynyr, had to be used. While we did not get to spend as much time there as we hoped, we have taken the plot again this year and will continue to develop the fruit beds.
The Clonmel Allotments Association opened in 2008 with the aim of offering plots to people interested in community gardening. We joined their waiting list last year and are delighted that this year we were offered a plot. In this first year, to add to the vegetable plot in Old St Marys we are growing fruit and herbs. We feel this is a nice complimentary offering and will ease us into use of the plot while we make plans for next year.
